Aeration and Overseeding
At First Response Land we are constantly working to make our Client's lives easier as we continue to grow! In our current efforts to do this, we now have the Equipment to keep your Turf even healthier than it already is!
After a season of Foot Traffic and Lawn Maintenance Equipment being on your Property, it is important to do something to let the Soil Breathe! This is where Aeration comes into play. Core Aeration uses a piece of equipment that will create a void in the soil. This "plug" will then open up an area for better air flow, better access for water to get to the roots and if overseeding at the same time, it gives an area for the seed to drop into to allow great seed to soil contact! The plug that is removed will sit on top of the turf and break down over time allowing the nutrients to reenter the soil as well.
Aeration is important to keep your turf healthy and it is suggested to do at least once, and up to twice per year on a property. The best time for aeration is during the fall at least 4 weeks prior to a hard frost. This allows the ground to soften up and roots to grow deeper prior to the Turf going Dormant. The other option for aeration is during the Spring Growing Season. During this time of year, this will allow the grass to grow more rapidly and become stronger.
An additional option with Aeration is Overseeding. As simply as it sounds, Overseeding is the Spreading of Seed overtop of the existing Turf. This will help the lawn to grow in thicker as time goes on. The optimal time for Overseeding is with Fall Aeration. This allow the new Turf to germinate and begin growing before the Winter months. By doing this, it will jump start the growth for Spring!
